The Weber Q220 is the ‘just right’ portable gas grill. It is right in the middle between Weber’s Q120 and Q320 models – the Q120 is smaller and lighter, while the Q320 is larger and heavier. In terms of portability, this grill folds up nice and compact, and it’s easy to move around. However, don’t be fooled into thinking this is a tiny grill by the term ‘portable’. With 280 square inches of cooking space, the Q220 can cook a dozen large burgers or six large steaks. A big plus is the cast-iron grate, which is excellent for searing meat and holding in the heat. Like all Weber Q grills, the Q220 has two foldable plastic side tables and push-button ignition.
This grill gets hot very quickly – it can reach 400 degrees in about 5 minutes. Control of the temperature is precise, since there is a built-in thermometer on the hood. This grill can get hot for searing steaks, or it can cook at low heat and roast whole chickens.
The Q220 is an upgraded version of the Q200 with a couple extra features. First, it has a slightly taller lid. This extra room allows you to cook a whole chicken, half turkey, or full-sized roast. (These may not fit into the Q200, depending on their size.) Second, this grill has a built-in temperature gauge on the lid. Considering that this grill is easy to carry around and can still cook for a large group, it is the ideal tailgate grill.

Weber Q220 User Reviews
Like all Weber grills, the Q220 has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from those who have purchased and used it. On Amazon, 65 out of 70 buyers gave this grill a 4 or 5 star rating. Many users described debating between a cheapo grill and a Weber; they were all satisfied with their choice to pay for American-made quality:
“My wife and I spent a great deal of time looking at different small gas grills. We checked out the Weber Q100, but decided it wasn’t large enough for the family… We saw the Weber Q220 (with the side trays) at a store, thought it was the right size for us, but it was a little pricey. We thought about it for several days, and then found it for $50 less online. This grill is everything we’d hoped for and all you’d expect from a Weber grill. It was easy to put together (I did it myself so the wife wouldn’t bug me) and it was ready to go in about 30 minutes. We haven’t had a bad meal from it yet.”
Other reviewers praised the electronic push-button ignition (a feature that most Weber Q grills have):
“I really like the electronic ignition. Turn on the gas, push the button, click, click, and you’re in business… Also if your igniter doesn’t work, just change the battery! Some people complain about this but it turns out they didn’t read the manual.”
Experienced grillers that formerly had a large stationary grill were pleasantly surprised at the power of the Q220 – that’s a consistent theme of the reviews on Amazon:
“At first, I was worried that the 12,000 BTUs wouldn’t be enough – that’s only one-third the power of my large grill. However, with the combination of the cast aluminum body and cast iron grill surface, this grill can make the thermometer needle reach 600deg F only 15 min after hitting the igniter. In other words She gets HOT ! Steaks sear very well and they take even less time to cook than on my behemoth 40,000 BTU BBQ!”
Overall, the Weber Q220 is a great option for a higher-end portable grill. The online price will always be much less than retail – I recommend checking out the pricing on Amazon here: Weber Q220.
